Dr Stephen Merrilees

Stephen joined ARG as an associate in 2011, became a partner in 2014, and in 2020 became ARG’s new Medical Director, in line with a change in governance. After completing radiology training in Auckland in 2005 Stephen completed Body and Interventional Radiology Fellowships in both Auckland New Zealand and the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, Scotland. Following this he obtained further fellowship training in MRI in Melbourne Australia before taking up a consultant post as Head of Vascular Imaging and Intervention at Monash Hospital in Melbourne.

In 2011 Stephen returned home to Auckland New Zealand as one of the Body Radiology and Interventional team at Auckland City Hospital. While Stephen is involved on all areas of Body imaging and Intervention he has particular interest in Hepatobiliary and Vascular Imaging and Intervention. Stephen has published in peer reviewed journals, co-written book chapters, and been involved in local and international meetings both as invited Faculty and Convenor. He is the NZ branch representative of the Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia (IRSA); Australasian EC member for APSCVIR and NZ representative for CCRTPET.
